Toyo Tire Serbia
Toyo Tire Serbia put into operation almost 50% of its solar power plant, located within the factory in Indjija.
The solar plant, “Taiyo” (sun), will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 200.000 tons throughout the 20-year exploitation period. Almost 50% is commissioned already.
During the construction in Indjija, workers are being trained and prequalified for future jobs to install solar panels and manage the operation of solar power plants. These skills will be needed throughout the region in the future.
The project as such is supported by UNDP Serbia, through the “Just Green Transition and decarbonization in Serbia”, financed by the Government of Japan.
“We are proud that this project will be the starting point of sustainable transformation here in this local society”, says on their social networks.
Metalfer Steel Mill
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided a loan of EUR 21.4 million to Metalfer Steel Mill, Serbia’s leading manufacturer of concrete reinforcement steel, the EBRD says in a press release.
The loan will finance the construction of a new rolling mill for processing scrap metal and semi-finished products, which will improve efficiency and reduce emissions, as well as a new rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) mini-plant, producing up to 4 MW of renewable power to meet production needs.
– Manufacturing is one of the sectors where reducing the use of energy and resources is most challenging, so we are happy to support two aspects of the low-carbon transition in this project: energy efficiency plus renewables – said Matteo Colangeli, EBRD Director for the Western Balkans.
He adds that increasing production will allow Metalfer to meet high demand from the construction industry, both domestically and potentially across the region, which has been hit by supply-chain disruptions in recent years.
The loan to Metalfer Steel Mill will increase the EBRD’s total commitment to Serbia to nearly EUR 8 billion, the press release says.
