According to the report on the operation of free zones in 2016, adopted by the Government of Serbia at the first session in August, a total of EUR 236.41 million was invested within them last year. Goods worth EUR 2.15 million were exported, amounting to 16% of the country’s total exports in 2016, which amounted to EUR 13.42 billion.
There are currently 14 free zones in Serbia – Pirot, Zrenjanin, Subotica, Novi Sad, Sabac, Uzice, Smederevo, Krusevac, FAS – Kragujevac, Nis – South, Apatin, Svilajnac, Vranje and Priboj. Over 200 multinational companies operate in them, of which 71 produce for export, with precisely 25,175 employees on the last day of 2016.
It’s interesting to note that Serbian free zones are dominated by car component manufacturers, primarily cable producers. Of the big national companies, there’s Fiat, Michelin, Continental, Yazaki, Lear, PKC, Siemens, Swarovski, Panasonic, Copper Mill Sevojno and Impol Seval.
