The Municipality of Apatin is located on the left bank of the Danube river (natural border with Croatia), between the Municipality of Sombor (in the northeast) and Municipality of Odžaci (in the southeast). Apatin is situated in the north-western part of the spacious plain in Bačka, on the left side of the Danube.
